You may not believe it but Rajasthan is one of the best places for bird watching and birding tours. This Rajasthan Bird Watching Tour takes you to some of the most famous and impressive birding spots in Rajasthan. We will also visit national parks and wildlife sanctuaries on this tour. Plus, you will visit some iconic historic monuments also. As our tour progresses you can tick all the birds you found out in your bird checklist. This is a tour of incredible beauty, wildlife, nature, and historic sites.
Your first day of this Rajasthan Bird Watching Tour will start from Delhi. Our tour representative will pick you up from Delhi Airport/ Delhi Railway Station and transfer you to the pre-booked hotel in Delhi. On your check-in, you will freshen up and drive by private vehicle to Okhla Bird Sanctuary. This bird sanctuary is the best place near Delhi to spot a variety of birds such as babblers, doves, swamphen, jacana, ibis, herons, and others. You must visit Okhla Bird Sanctuary with your binoculars and DSLR cameras so that you can view the birds in all their beautiful details and colors. After this bird-watching visit to Okhla Bird Sanctuary, you will return to your hotel. You will now spend the rest of the day at leisure. In the evening you will have dinner and rest here for the night.
After you have checked out from Delhi you will take the flight to Udaipur. On arriving in Udaipur you will drive to Mount Abu. After you have checked-in at the hotel in Mount Abu you will come with us to view the magnificent birds in Mount Abu. This hill station is famous for its striking beauty and you can also view the birdlife in Mount Abu. There are many trails that you can take to view the birds from close range. You can watch many birds here like Jungle Quail, Jungle Fowl, Pied Cuckoo, Asian Koel, Crested Serpent Eagle, Hawks, and other predatory and resident birds. As the day ends you will return to your hotel in Mount Abu and spend the night here.
Today morning is the best time to look out for birds in Mount Abu. You can try a different trail and tick the birds which you could spot in your birding checklist. You can arrive at your hotel at the time of lunch and in the afternoon leave for Jodhpur. You will reach Jodhpur in about 4-5 hours of driving. You will now check-in at the hotel and then proceed to do some sightseeing in Jodhpur. We can suggest you visit the Mehrangarh Fort, which is also the most famous attraction in Jodhpur. If you are on time, you will be lucky to visit Mehrangarh Fort, during the time it is open to the public. During your visit to Mehrangarh Fort, you can view the narrow streets of Jodhpur and its markets. The blue-colored houses can be seen from the top of Mehrangarh Fort. After this, you can visit the Clock Tower Market and you can dine here on some juicy Rajasthani street food. Later you will return to your hotel in Jodhpur and rest here for the night.
Today we will wake up early and proceed to Jaisalmer from Jodhpur. This will be a drive of around 4-5 hours. On arrival in Jaisalmer, you will check-in at the hotel and then visit Desert National Park. This is one of India’s biggest national parks and the birdlife= in this park is very unique. You will find the Great Indian Bustard here which is considered to be one of the rarest birds in India. You will even spot the Desert Lark, sand-grouse, nightjar, and other birds. Desert National Park is a very unique national park in India as you will birds, mammals, and reptiles which are very unique to this sandy and thorny habitat of the Thar Desert. You can also find predatory birds such as falcons, kestrels, buzzards, eagles, vultures, etc. In the evening you can explore the market and do sightseeing around Jaisalmer. The next day is also a day of birding in Jaisalmer.
You can take the morning time to watch out for birds in Jaisalmer. After breakfast, you can proceed to visit Phalodi and reach here after a 3-hour drive. Phalodi is famous for its salt industry and heritage havelis. You will find many temples here. But Phalodi is also famous for the demoiselle cranes, which come here every year to roost in the small ponds and water pockets that collect here. We will go on a cultural trip around Phalodi and view the villages and rural life here. Later you will return to your hotel and rest here for the night.
Today morning we will visit Khichan Bird Sanctuary and the most famous bird you can spot here is the Demoiselle Crane. This bird sanctuary is very famous in Rajasthan as the demoiselle cranes come here from faraway countries like China, Kazakhstan, and Europe. Khichan is one of the best birding spots in the entire Rajasthan as you can spot vast flocks of demoiselle cranes here without using binoculars. These big birds are the most beautiful sight in Khichan. After this bird-watching tour of Khichan, you will proceed further on this Rajasthan Bird Watching Tour and visit Tal Chhapar Sanctuary. You can check-in at the forest guest house on your arrival and go for a short bird-watching and wildlife tour of Tal Chhapar Sanctuary. The most famous creature you can spot here is the blackbuck. You can also spot other creatures here like desert hares, chinkara deer, nilgai (blue bull), and others. After this half-day bird-watching tour of Tal Chhapar Blackbuck Sanctuary, you can rest here in the forest lodge with dinner and an overnight stay.
Today you will spend the entire morning bird-watching at Tal Chhapar Sanctuary. You will find a mixed landscape here which includes savannah grasslands, scrub forests, and desert landscapes. You can tick the birds you see here like falcons, bee-eaters, ravens, skylarks, shrike, Eurasian kestrels, sandgrouse, and others. You can also find the demoiselle cranes, vultures, eagles, quail, and other bird species here. After this day of bird watching in Tal Chhapar, you will return to your forest lodge and rest here for the night.
Today you will leave Tal Chhapar behind and proceed to visit yet another famous birding destination in Rajasthan. Though you may identify Ranthambore for its Royal Bengal Tigers, it is also a famous birding hotspot in Rajasthan. But on the way you will make a short halt at Sambhar Wildlife Sanctuary. This sanctuary is named after Sambhar Lake, which is loosely known as Shakambari Jheel. This lake ranks among the largest saltwater lakes in India. Every year thousands of migratory flamingos, gulls, pelicans, shoveller, and other birds come here. After you have ticked all the birds you have spotted in your birding checklist, it is time to move on and visit Ranthambore. When we arrive in Ranthambore you can check-in at the hotel/ lodge/ resort, and rest here for the night.
Today you will have two wildlife safaris in Ranthambore. One is in the morning and one is in the evening time. Royal Bengal Tigers are the most famous wildlife species which can be seen in Ranthambore. Your jeep/ canter will take you through the jungle and find the best spots where you can watch these incredible beasts bask in the jungle canopy. Ranthambore has become famous only due to the Royal Bengal Tigers. But you can also spot crocodiles, sambar deer, chinkara, blue bull, wild boars, and other creatures. In the evening time, you will go on a wildlife safari and birding trip and spot various birds here like orioles, whistling ducks, cormorants, Shikra, sand-grouse, parakeets, and many others. After this birding trip to Ranthambore, you can return to your jungle resort and stay here for the night.
The lakes in Ranthambore National Park are great spots to observe birds and photograph them. Padam Talao is one such lake and you can watch out for amazing birds, reptiles, and mammals in the lush green jungles, scrub forests, swamps, and grassy meadows. You can spot magnificent birds such as the Francolin, Pochards, Quail, woodpeckers, barbets, shoveller, goose, and others. After this birding trip, you can spend the rest of the day doing leisure activities. Later rest in the hotel/ lodge in Ranthambore.
After breakfast, you will proceed onwards on this Rajasthan Bird Watching Tour and visit Bharatpur. The most famous birding spot in the entire North India is Bharatpur. Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is the old name of this national park which is now called as Keoladeo National Park was earlier known as Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. This is one of the best birding spots in the world and birds from Siberia, Central Asian countries, and Europe come here to spend the winter months. The wetlands, scrub forests, swamps, and dry grasslands provide the perfect habitat for birds, reptiles, and mammals. More than 400 bird species are found in Keoladeo National Park. Some birds which you can spot here are eagles, demoiselle cranes, sarus cranes, painted storks, nightjar, pelicans, darters, and many others. After this bird-watching trip in Keoladeo, you will return to your hotel in Bharatpur and rest here for the night.
Today again you will go for a bird-watching tour of Keoladeo National Park. You will try a different birding trail today and cover other birds which you missed the previous day. You can spot the Egyptian Vulture, Kestrels, Eagles, Storks, geese, falcons, darters, ibis, pochard, and other birds. After the day’s birding, you will return to your hotel and rest here for the night.
Today we proceed to Dholpur from Bharatpur. We will visit the National Chambal Sanctuary and view the migratory birds here. The Chambal River is the main river in Madhya Pradesh and some section of the river flows through Rajasthan. In Dholpur, the Chambal River attracts a lot of birds like terns, flamingos, harriers, gulls, sarus cranes, and others. National Chambal Sanctuary is also famous for its crocodiles, turtles, dolphins, hyenas, and wolves. After spotting these creatures you will return to your hotel in Dholpur and rest here for the night.
Today we will leave Dholpur after breakfast and reach Agra. Here you will visit the Taj Mahal and take a tour of Agra Fort. After the day’s sightseeing ends in Agra, you will proceed onwards to reach Delhi.
Today is the last day of this Rajasthan Bird Watching Tour. We will drop you at Delhi Airport/ Delhi Railway Station and you can take the scheduled flight/ train to your hometown.
