On arriving in Chennai we drive to Chidambaram. The route from Chennai to Chidambaram will take around 6-7 hours to reach Chidambaram. On the way, you can view the scenic shoreline and the seacoast from your car. After we arrive at your hotel in Chidambaram, we head to Pichavaram. This ranks among the finest mangrove forests in the entire world. It is the world’s second-largest mangrove forest. You can have an hour of boat ride in which you sail and explore the complex teeming jungle which is full of birds, fishes, and other aquatic animals. We come back to Chidambaram and visit the incredible Thillai Nataraja Temple. This is a Shiva temple with fantastic carvings and architecture. This is a 10th-century temple that is one of the top sightseeing places in Chidambaram. After this, we will drive to Vaitheeswaran Koil, which is one of the famous temples of Lord Shiva. After this full-day tour of Chidambaram, you will now rest in your hotel.
On the second day of your Tamil Nadu tour, we will leave Chidambaram behind us, and leave for our next big destination, Thanjavur. This city is more famous by its other name, Tanjore. Thanjavur is famous for its temples, South Indian art, UNESCO World Heritage sites, Tanjore Paintings, and Chola architecture. We will visit the incredible Brihadeeswarar Temple, which is one of the greatest temples in South India. It has the finest Chola architecture and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After this, we will visit Thanjavur Palace, which has large halls, long corridors, and royal interiors. You can spend an hour observing the incredible architecture of this immense palace. We will now visit Thanjavur Art Gallery and marvel at a rich collection of paintings, wall art, murals, sculptures, and other rare art. We will now drive from Thanjavur and head to our next big destination, Madurai. The driving distance from Thanjavur to Madurai is about 4 hours. In Madurai, we will visit the famous Meenakshi Amman Temple. The temple is famous all over India for its carvings, sculptures, and architecture. The temple is one of the biggest temples in India and its prasad is very delicious and sweet. You can now visit the Koodal Alagar Temple, which is even older than the Meenakshi Temple. The sculptures and carvings on this temple are incredible. Thirumalai Nayak Mahal is the next monument that we will visit in Madurai. This palace complex has fine architecture and huge courtyards, halls, sculptures, and museums. In the evening you can rest after this fabulous tour of Madurai.
The journey from Madurai to Rameswaram will take only about 4 hours of driving. Rameswaram is located on an island known as Pamban Island. Rameswaram is famous for Dhanushkodi and is the closest point to Sri Lanka. After checking in at the hotel, we drive to Agniteertham, which is a very sacred place. It is believed that Lord Ram worshipped here to wash off his sin of having killed a Brahmin who was Ravana. Devotees bathe in the sea and purify themselves of all sins. After this visit, you will head to one of the greatest temples in India, which is none other than Ramanatha Swamy Temple. The temple ranks among the finest Hindu temples and is one of the most famous 12 Jyotirlinga temples in India. The long corridors, incredible spacious courtyards, rich architecture, sculptures, and carvings on the temple will take your breath away. On this day we will visit Tiruchirappalli. This is just a 2-3 hour drive from Madurai. This is one of the finest cities in Tamil Nadu and the Kaveri Delta is very close to Tiruchirappalli. You will visit the Rock Fort Temple. This is a fort complex that is perched on top of large rocks. It is a spectacular piece of architecture from ancient India. We will visit Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple which is a very famous South Indian temple. The temple is worth visiting for its Dravidian architecture and fantastic sculptures. This temple ranks as one of the very ancient temples in Tamil Nadu. We will now end this tour of Tiruchirappalli and head to Chennai.
