Your 5N 6D North East Tour will start when you arrive in Guwahati. We will pick you up from the Guwahati airport or railway station and drive to Shillong. The driving time from Guwahati to Shillong is about 3 hours. The most exciting place you can make a halt on this route is Umiam Lake. This lake is one of the spectacular reservoirs of water with many adventure activities. You can do paddle boating, water scooter rides, speed boating, and water skiing at Umiam Lake. Or else, you can also go trekking around the lake. After this visit to Umiam Lake, you will continue your journey to Shillong by car. On arrival in Shillong, you can check-in at the hotel and then go for a sightseeing tour of Shillong. Shillong is known for its Scotland-like landscapes and that is why it is also known as the ‘Scotland of the East’. We will visit Ward’s Lake, Don Bosco Museum, Cathedral Church, Lady Hydari Park, and the local bazaar. You can have dinner at your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure
On this day you will do an excursion to Cherrapunjee, which is just about a 2-3 hours drive from Shillong by car. Cherrapunjee is the place in India that receives the highest recorded rainfall during the monsoon season. Cherrapunjee is famous for its waterfalls, deep cave systems, canyons, Living Root Bridges, and natural beauty. We will begin this trip to Cherrapunjee with a visit to one of the deep caves in India, which is Mawsmai Caves. These are limestone caves and you can explore these caves with the help of tube lights. You can visit the Living Root Bridges, which are double-decker bridges made of tree roots. Next, we will visit the highest waterfall in India, which is Nohkalikai Falls. The view of the rainbows mingled with the thunderous waterfall is beyond words to describe. We will visit places like Seven Sisters Falls, and Eco Park and then drive back to Shillong. Later spend the rest of the day at your hotel or explore the local market.
We will go on an excursion to one of the finest destinations in Meghalaya, that is Dawki River. The river forms a natural border between India and Bangladesh. The driving time from Shillong to Dawki is about 2-3 hours. Dawki River is one of the cleanest rivers in India and it is so clean that you can view the river bed while boating in the river. Boating in Dawki River takes you to visit some spectacular waterfalls on the banks of the river. You can also have a dip in the clean and transparent waters of the river. After this visit, we will proceed to visit Mawlynnong. This village is famous for being the cleanest village in the world. After this visit, you will be back in Shillong and spend the rest of the day at the hotel and rest.
After checkout from Shillong, we will now visit another famous tourist destination in the North East that is the Pobitara Wildlife Sanctuary. The Pobitara Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the finest places in Assam to spot the magnificent one-horned rhinoceros. The driving time from Shillong to Pobitara is about 4 hours by car. You can go for a safari in this wildlife sanctuary and spot water buffalo, barking deer, leopards, and other creatures. This wildlife sanctuary is on the Brahmaputra River. After this wildlife safari, we will check-in at our hotel in Guwahati and then explore the local markets in Guwahati. You can buy some tea leaves, Assam Silk sarees, pickles, toys, etc. You can also enjoy the sunset river cruise on the Brahmaputra River in Guwahati. Then spend the rest of the day at your hotel and rest for the night.
After an early morning breakfast, you will spend the day on a sightseeing tour of Guwahati. You will visit Kamakhya Temple, which is a magnificent Shakti temple and is famous for its black magic and occult tantric practices. The temple offers you magnificent views of the Brahmaputra River. If you go at the right time you can participate in the Ambubachi Mela, which is a local fair held at the temple. Bubhaneshwari temple is another temple close to the Kamakhya Temple. Other temples that you can visit on this day are Navagraha Temple and Umananda Temple. You can also visit the Assam State Zoo and spot various wild animals and birds. You can dine at a local popular restaurant in Guwahati and dine on some authentic Assamese delicacies. At the end of this Guwahati sightseeing, you can return to your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure.
We will check out from Guwahati after breakfast and visit the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra and Science Museum. Later we will drop you at the Guwahati railway station or Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport.
