We will start your tour from Chennai and as you arrive in Chennai, we will proceed to do a sightseeing Chennai tour. We will visit famous places in Chennai like Vadapalani Murugan Temple, Marina Beach, St. Thomas Mount, Kapaleeswar Temple, and Fort St. George. Return to your hotel in Chennai and rest for the night.
You will now check out from your hotel in Chennai and head to Pondicherry. Chennai to Pondicherry is a drive of approximately 4-5 hours. You will stop at Mahabalipuram on the way and visit the famous Mahabalipuram Shore Temple, Five Rathas, Arjuna’s Penance, and other Mahabalipuram monuments, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After hotel check-in, visit Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry. The relaxed atmosphere of this ashram will refresh your senses. You can visit Auroville, where people from almost all the nations live together. You can walk on the Promenade and see the glorious sunsets from Paradise Beach. At night come back to your hotel and rest for the night.
You can check out from Pondicherry on this day and drive to your next best Tamil Nadu destination. Chidambaram is a city in Tamil Nadu, and the most famous temple here is the Chidambaram Temple. The Thillai Nataraja Temple is the temple of Lord Shiva, who is worshipped here as Nataraja, the Cosmic Dancer. After this visit, you will now drive to Swamimalai, which is famous for its Swamamalai Murugan Temple. The temple deity is Murugan, who is the divine form of the son of Lord Shiva. Later on, drive to Kumbakonam, which is famous for its temples. Most of the tourist places in Kumbakonam are temples and various Hindu shrines. You will visit the most famous among them which are the Ramaswamy Temple, Kumbeswara Temple, and Sarangapani Temple. These temples were built several centuries ago during the Chola rule and have incredible temple architecture. You will now rest at your hotel after this temple tour of Kumbakonam.
After breakfast in Kumbakonam, you can now head to Thanjavur. Tanjore, as it is popularly known, is a temple town, which has a lot of temples and is culturally rich. You will visit the most famous attraction of Thanjavur which is the Brihadeeswarar temple. The temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is well known for its huge idol of Nandi and Shiv linga. Proceed from Thanjavur and drive to Tiruchirappalli. The famous city is one of the culturally rich places in Tamil Nadu. You will visit the number one attraction in Trichy which is the collection of three temples atop a huge rock. The Rockfort Temples as it is popularly known is shaped like a huge fort and has three spectacular temples built inside. Later in the evening, you will visit the incredible temples here which are Sri Ranganathaswamy and Jambukeshwara Temple. At night you will rest at your hotel in Trichy.
On this day we will depart from Trichy and drive to Madurai. On the way, we will make a stop at Pillayarpatti. This place is famous for its rock-cut temple. Proceed to Madurai after this visit. Check into your hotel and visit the famous Meenakshi Amman Temple, considered to be one of the greatest temples in South India. Visit Mariamman Teppakulam, which is famous as the largest temple tank in South India. Now you will head to Pazhamuthircholai, which is a hilltop shrine of Lord Murugan, which is located close to Madurai. The temple is located amid scenic landscapes and nearby is a beautiful waterfall called Noopura Ganga. Another famous temple Azhagar Kovil is also situated close to Pazhamuthircholai. In the evening come back to your hotel and rest for the night.
After checking out from Madurai, you will now proceed to visit Thiruvannamalai. It has the greatest Shiva temple in South India and that is called Annamalaiyar Temple. Later on, visit the famous Arunachalesvara Temple, which is a Chola temple of the 9th and 10th centuries. You can shop for some time and rest for the night at your hotel.
You will now check out from Thiruvannamalai and head to Chennai. On the way, you can make a stop at Kanchipuram and visit the very famous temples here. The Vardarajanperumal Temple, Ekambareshwarar Temple, Kailasanthar Temple, and Sakiswarar Temple are immensely popular temples that you can visit here. Later visit the Crocodile Farm and later proceed to Chennai. Check-in at your hotel and rest for the night.
After breakfast, you can now relax or visit some nearby places in Chennai till your flight or train arrives. This is your end of this 7N 8D Tamil Nadu tour.
