After you arrive in Cochin, you will visit the famous places in Cochin in the afternoon. Cochin has a blend of Portuguese and Kerala architecture. The best places that you will visit in Cochin include Dutch Palace, Jew Town, Jewish Synagogue, St Francis Church, and the Chinese Fishing Nets. Some of these places are very old and date back to the 16th century. You can explore the local spice market and in the evening have a traditional Kerala dinner and rest for the night at your hotel in Cochin.
After checkout from Cochin, you will now drive to your next big Kerala destination and which is the hill station of Munnar. The distance from Cochin to Munnar is about 130 km and it will take approximately 4-5 hours by car to reach Munnar. The road route is the best way to explore Munnar. The winding roads that lead to the top of the hill station go through dense forests, serene valleys, scenic waterfalls, and innumerable viewpoints. You will see mists hanging on the valleys and the mountain tops covered with clouds. On the way, you can make stops to admire the scenic beauty of Valara Waterfalls, and Cheeyappara Waterfalls. You will cross the Periyar River Bridge and soak in the beautiful waters of the Periyar River flowing beneath the bridge. On arrival in Munnar, you can have half day of sightseeing in Munnar. You can do some adventurous activities like boating in Mattypetty Dam Lake or a shikara ride in Kundala Lake. After a delicious dinner which can include some traditional Kerala
You will have a full day of Munnar sightseeing. Explore the viewpoints like Echo Point, and Photo Point, take a tour of a tea estate, or have elephant rides. You can explore the Tea Museum and explore the local markets. In the afternoon, you will explore the famous Eravikulam National Park and spot some wild animals and birds. Nilgiri Tahr is a rare deer species that you can spot here. In the evening you can explore a spice plantation and try some water sports at Mattypetty Dam. Munnar has several good restaurants which serve traditional Kerala cuisine and you can try them out. Come back to your resort at night and rest.
On this day you will now check out from Munnar and proceed to visit Thekkady. After arriving in Thekkady, you can have a pleasant boat ride on the Periyar River. Go for an elephant safari at Periyar National Park and spot rare birds and animals in the open jungle. Along with this, you can visit tribal hamlets and watch the tribals and their lifestyle. Spend the evening at your hotel and rest for the night.
Thekkady to Kumarakom is merely a 120 km journey that you can complete in 3-4 hours. You can check out from Thekkady on this day and drive to Kumarakom, the beach destination in Kerala. Kumarakom is famous for its backwaters and you can explore these on a houseboat tour in Kumarakom. On arrival in Kumarakom, you can check in at your houseboat and stay here for the rest of your day. As you sail through the idyllic backwaters you will see the pleasant life of the fishermen here. You can enjoy the lakeside stroll along Vembanad Lake and see the birds here. You can stop by a local market and buy some souvenirs for yourself. You can explore the inland route and visit the picturesque Aruvikkuzhi Waterfall. In the evening you will now have dinner in your houseboat and rest for the night.
Alleppey is one of the best places to experience idyllic life on the houseboat. As you drive to Alleppey from Kumarakom (a drive of around an hour), you see the small hamlets by the backwaters, the paddy fields, the tall coconut palms swaying in the breeze, and the typical Kerala boats anchored and ready to let out in the sea. After you check in at your houseboat in Alleppey you will spend the rest of the day here. Go inland on the water channels and discover the hidden lagoons and innumerable waterways. Spot birds and you can talk to your hosts and know a thing or two about life here in the backwaters of Kerala. After an evening dinner in the houseboat, you will rest for the night.
After breakfast in your houseboat check out from Alleppey and drive to Kovalam. Kovalam is one of the best beaches in Kerala. The entire day is yours to explore at leisure. Enjoy doing so many activities at the beach like volleyball, beach sports, and speed boating, and have a rejuvenating Ayurvedic massage and herbal treatment at Kovalam. You can explore the best beaches here like Lighthouse Beach, Samudra Beach, Vellayani Lake, Vizhinjam Rock Cut Cave Temple, etc. In the evening, you will dine on some sumptuous Kerala dishes and rest for the night.
You will do sightseeing in Kovalam on this day at leisure. You can do catamaran rides, go on top of the lighthouse, have houseboat rides at Karamana River, surf at the beaches, and enlist for a Yoga session. If you are visiting Kovalam in the right season, you can even catch sight of a village fair or a boat race. This is a chance that you can have to explore the cultural side of Kerala. Enjoy a Kathakali dance or learn about different massage therapies. In the evening you will rest for the night at your hotel.
You will drive to Trivandrum after checking out from your hotel in Kovalam. A trip to Trivandrum is only about half an hour by car from Kovalam. Trivandrum was formerly called Thiruvananthapuram and is famous for its innumerable temples and shrines. The most famous temple that you will visit on this trip is the famous Padmanabhaswamy Temple. This temple is one of the most famous pilgrimage centers and is famous for its exquisite carvings and temple architecture. You can spend an hour or two just visiting this temple. After this, you will drive back to Kovalam, and drive back to Cochin.
