Day 1 - Mumbai to Shani Shingnapur and Shirdi by Car
Shirdi Sai Baba Temple
One of the best religious places in Maharashtra is the shrine and temple of Shirdi Sai Baba. This shrine is that of the holy saint Sai Baba, who is lovingly called Shirdi ke Sai Baba. The great saint of Maharashtra lived his entire life in Shirdi. The saint was blessed with great divine powers and performed many miracles during his lifetime. His blessings helped the poor and needy people. The temple is so famous that 25000 devotees visit it every day and during religious occasions this number goes up to 1,00,000 per day. The temple has the marble shrine of Sai Baba. The temple complex has several other temples like Khandoba Temple, Samadhi Mandir, Dwarkamai, and Lendi Gardens among others. All these places are very closely linked to the life of the great saint. There are canteens, accommodation facilities, book stalls, Prasad counters, etc. in the temple.

Dwarkamai
Dwarkamai is very closely related to Shirdi Sai Baba. This used to be an old mosque and it was in ruins. Shirdi Sai Baba converted it into a religious place of worship and sat there daily to help the poor people. Shirdi Sai Baba started the dhuni or ceremonial fire in Dwarkamai. The ashes of this fire are said to have healing properties. You can visit the stone bench here where the holy saint took his bath. Every Thursday a big procession takes place and a palanquin with Baba’s idol is taken out from Samadhi Mandir to Dwarkamai. Free meals are offered daily to visitors and people of all castes are welcome to pray and have darshan.

Chavadi
Chavadi is another famous place that you will visit during this Mumbai to Shirdi and Shani Shingnapur tour by cab. Chavadi is a very important place and played a key role in the life of Shirdi Sai Baba. It was here that the saint moved when the old mosque in Dwarkamai was unsuitable to live in during the monsoon rains. Chavadi is a small village where the holy saint spent many years of his life. The organization which manages the Shirdi Sai Baba Temple arranges for accommodation and other facilities here.

Shani Shingnapur
Another famous attraction that you will visit on this tour is Shani Shingnapur. The temple deity of this temple is Shani Dev or the Planet Saturn in Hindu mythology. The black idol here represents Shani Dev and is a self-manifested idol of the god. The idol is said to have been under the ground since the start of the Kaliyug era. The idol is a Swayambhu Shanishwara idol. The remarkable thing about this temple is that it has no doors, walls, or buildings, and is an open-air temple. There is a trishul and a statue of Nandi near the black stone idol. This temple has immense importance in Maharashtra. Every day around 30000 to 50000 visitors visit the temple. Women are not permitted to pray inside the temple. During Amavasya night or the New Moon, more people visit the temple.
