Fort St. George
One of the glorious examples of British Rule in Chennai is a fort called Fort St. George. The fort is a very old monument and was named after the saint St. George, who was the chief saints of England. You can visit many monuments inside like Wellesley House, Mary’s Church, and Fort Museum among many others. The fort was built in 1639 and is a very historic fort, not just in Chennai, but in the entire India. The fort today is a place where the offices of the state legislature are located. You can view many artifacts here in the museum and some of them are the letters of Lord Cornwallis and Robert Clive. You can also view ancient coins, stamps, uniforms, weapons, and other things.

Kapaleeshwar Temple
Kapaleeshwar Temple ranks among the illustrious and topmost temples in Chennai and South India. The temple is famous for its incredible Dravidian-style architecture. The main deities of this temple are Lord Shiva and Parvati. Kapaleeshwar Temple was built during the 7th century and is among the ancient temples that the Pallavas built during their rule. The tall gopurams or temple towers are the most striking feature of this temple. They rise to a height of 40 meters and have incredible carvings and sculptures of mythological characters, gods, goddesses, and other symbols. Kapaleeshwar Temple is in Mylapore, near Chennai and its name is derived from two words Kapal and Eeshwar. Kapal means head and Eeshwar means Lord Shiva.

Saint Thomas Church

Parthasarathy Temple

Government Museum

Valluvar Kottam
The famous monument of Vallavur Kottam is dedicated to the great Tamil poet and saint whose name was Thiruvalluvar. The monument was designed by the famous architect V.Ganapati Sthapati and is designed in such an ingenious way that it looks like a chariot from a distance. This famous monument has a large auditorium and it can accommodate 4000 people at a time.

Vadapalani Murugan Temple
