1Day Day 1 - Full-Day Kolkata Sightseeing

Dakshineswar Kali Temple
One of the major temples that you will visit in this Full-Day Kolkata Sightseeing Tour is Dakshineshwar Kali Temple. The main deity in this temple is Goddess Kali, who is worshipped here in the divine form of Bhavatarini. The temple is on the Hooghly River and is a very sacred temple with a glorious history. Rani Rashmoni built this temple in 1855 in devotion to the Goddess Bhavatarini. The temple is majestic in its architecture and is constructed according to the Bengal architectural style. The tall spires in the temple and the landscaped garden are very eye-catching features of the temple. This temple garden is a very calm and peaceful atmosphere to sit and relax. There are idols of Goddess Kali, who is standing on the chest of Lord Shiva. There are many other shrines near the temple that you can visit.

Belur Math
Belur Math is another famous monument that is situated on the banks of the Hooghly River. This monument is the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Mission, which was founded by Swami Vivekananda. He was the disciple of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. This is a place of worship and its peaceful surroundings are great for spending some time in tranquillity and silence. The architecture of Belur Math is a beautiful blend of Islamic, Hindu, Christian, and Buddhist architectural styles. You can visit the museum inside which has some priceless artifacts relating to the Ramakrishna Mission. Belur Math has a vast premise and campus where you can visit innumerable temples of Swami Vivekananda, Sarada Devi, Ramakrishna Paramhamsa, and others. Belur Math is an institution in itself that conducts various spiritual programs, cultural activities, and educational classes for women and backward people.

Mother House
The next place which we will visit in our One-Day Kolkata Tour is the Missionaries of Charity, also known as Mother House. This is the place in Kolkata where Mother Teresa lived and worked to offer voluntary services to poor and needy people. She established this institution in 1950 as a Roman Catholic and religious organization. There are 4500 and more sisters who work here on the principles of Mother Teresa. They work to help mentally disabled children, orphaned children, refugees, prostitutes, poor and aged people. Missionaries of Charity is a worldwide famous organization and it has centers in over 133 countries. There is a tomb where Mother Teresa was buried and a small museum where you can see exhibits relating to Mother Teresa and her life.

Howrah Bridge/Hooghly River
If there is one icon that reminds you instantly of Kolkata then it is none other than the Howrah Bridge. This bridge is built over the Hooghly River and was constructed in 1935. This bridge was renamed Rabindra Setu in memory of Rabindranath Tagore. Howrah Bridge is one of the busiest bridges in India and there are 8 lanes and 2 foot paths for pedestrians. According to estimates, the number of vehicles that use this bridge is 100,000 and over 150,000 pedestrians use this bridge daily. More than 26500 tonnes of steel was used in the construction of this bridge. Ferry services connect Howrah Bridge to different parts of Kolkata. This Howrah Bridge is spectacular in its architecture and design and is so photogenic that innumerable movies were shot here. You can have a boat ride and view the Howrah Bridge at night time.

St. John’s Church
